You know how sometimes the simplest thing can turn into such a struggle? Yeah, well that was me and these darn lamp shades.
This ribbon was on clearance at Walmart for a $1. I will buy just about anything for a dollar. I imagine most of us will, hence the success of places like The Dollar Store.
Glue ribbon to bottom of lamp shade. Easy enough, right? Wrong!
Since I was using spray adhesive I decided to work outside. I cut the ribbon to the proper length, leaving a little bit extra to fold the ribbon under and hide the unfinished edge. Then I got to spraying the ribbon and adhering it to the lamp shade. Thing is, the ribbon has stripes so it looked funky if the ribbon didn’t line up at the seem, but seeing as though these lamp shades were angled, getting the ribbon around it and lined up was all but impossible.
Do yourself a favor and stick to a solid ribbon. Then it really will be a five minute job.
I curse the day I laid eyes on you! <mutters self to ribbon>
All is well that ends well. Right? As a bonus, y’all can learn from my mistakes.
I know it doesn’t seem like much, but I feel like it finished off the lamps. The lamps, by the way, were a TJ Maxx find. You can learn more about my shelf-scaping tricks here, the console here, the stenciled drapes here, the mirror here, and living with kids and their junk stuff here.
For those of you that are new here, I recently posted a living room, dining room, kitchen tour, which you can check out here.
Anyone else get in a fight with ribbon lately? What was your “five minute” job that ended up taking WAY longer and nearly landed you in the nut house?
