I live with a lot of kid stuff. I’ve talked about that a few times here on the blog: organizing board games, and even gave 5 Tips for Living with Kids and Their Stuff. This is one of those things that seems to never be conquered. We are constantly getting rid of stuff around here. One of my latest pet peeves was the bins hanging half off the shelf. The kids would pull the bin out far enough to see what was in it and then leave it if it wasn’t the bin they were looking for. That and a whole lot of extra mess was made taking out extra bins and whole lot of confusion when it was clean up time.
I saw these super cheap chalkboard tags at Hobby Lobby–we are talking under 3 bucks. I think they are vinyl. I figured they would be perfect. I picked up a Bistro chalkboard marker (not so cheap, but at least it is reusable). I combined those Hobby Lobby purchases with the hole punch and bakers twine I had on hand and we were in business.
Now my kids are non-readers, so we went with pictures.
I actually did this months ago and they labels have held up really well. The best part is the kids check the labels before pulling out a bin and it makes clean up a breeze. Before when I would tell Quinn to put his action figure away he would pull out every single bin, the action figure bin being the last (because that is how these things go). Now we have labels and he gets it right on the first try everytime. YAY! Even two year old Eleanor can find what she is looking for.
And right with the kids stuff is the pretty stuff, because that is how we roll.
This is one way we make living with kids easy on everyone. Their stuff is easily accessible & easy on the eyes. What are your tips and tricks for kids and their stuff?
