Thanksgiving Journals & Christmas Shelves

Well we made it through our first week post-Thanksgiving break. We really enjoyed our break. With Quinn in school full-time (kindergarten), having him for a whole week made it feel like the good old days! To top it off, Ross was off of work Tuesday-Sunday. The kiddos fit in two sleepovers and we had two days of Thanksgiving. We also took a trip to Chicago. We were able to spend the day at the Museum of Science and Industry and then grab dinner and dessert in the city before shooting up 94 floors to top of the John Hancock building. The view was gorgeous! Over break, we saw Big Hero 6, ...

The Holiday Feeling

Yesterday, we adopted a 3-year-old Golden Retriever. We named him Harry.   He is pretty popular and we have had a lot of guests today. Everyone came to meet him today and everyone commented on how nice our house smells. It smells like a giant Christmas tree and I love it! I was lucky enough to get an amazing package of goodies from Thymes. Everything was packaged so beautifully. I'm lagging on basic housework, let alone getting holiday decor up so this was the perfect step for me. I think these products would make great hostess or teacher gifts. I ...

Things I Failed to Blog

As I am sharing pictures here and there, I am realizing there are things I never blogged about. Little updates and tweaks here and there--Like the addition of this wall mounted lamp to our TV gallery wall -- that I never told you about. That little addition not only added light, but freed up some space on the console for my Scentsy warmer and a wood bowl to hold all the remotes. Maybe I mentioned the new rug? It felt super risky to buy a patterned rug, but I love how it looks. The big arrow in the background is new too. Popped up on one of those deal sites and I had to have ...

Fun Living Room Update With Goodwill Desk

Sometimes I get the urge to find a little treasure. I will swing by Goodwill once a month and just hope to find something that catches my eye. I'm a sucker for all things school. You can take the girl out of the classroom, but not the classroom out of the girl. Or something like that. Desks, globes, chalkboards, rulers, books-- I love them all. Last trip, I found this desk and snatched it up immediately. I didn't know what to do with it. For now it is an end table in the living room and is working out well. Since taking these pictures, I turned it. What kind of ...

Fall Dining Room Table Decor

I have been sharing little touches of fall with you all week. I'm really embracing the spirit of fall. I've enjoyed making the house cozy, while the air gets crisp. This year--after years of decorating for Halloween (here, here, and here)-- I'm just warming things up. I shared these fun fall printables that are on display in my dining room along with our fun fall bucket list. And now I'm sharing how we dressed up the table. Did I ever tell you about this table? One random day I had the urge to go thrifting. Some days I just desperately feel the need to find a ...

Styling a Bookshelf

I love to decorate. I love having a place to display a little personality in my home, but I have kids soo.... Does this sentence even need to be finished? We live here. I mean LIVE here. They aren't in school yet, we don't have a play room. All the living and playing that a 5, 3, and 1 year old do happens right in my living room and dining room. A beautifully staged coffee table isn't going to happen. The living room floor is meant for wrestling matches, Legos, block towers, cooking and pretending to be Tim Howard. We have an Ikea Hemnes bookshelf, the bottom two shelves hold kid ...

A Jeweled Box

I was recently walking through the craft store and I spied these wood boxes. Geodes, quartz, stone are totally in right now. Anthropologie has beautiful geode hardware I'm swooning over. I also recently saw two of my favorite bloggers, The Handmade Home and I Heart Organizing, creating with these elements. I had received the Elmer's ProBond product as part of this sponsored post. It is meant for attaching porous and non-porous surfaces and I knew it would work perfectly for my box. I took off the hardware and painted the entire box gold. This was the same DecoArt gold paint I ...

Summer To Do List

This spring we did a little dining room update. I decided I was tired of decorating around a mirror and even worse, photographing into a mirror. Since so much of what we do with this space revolves around decorating for holidays and parties, I knew I wanted to put something up that lent itself to decorating. I had grand plans to build this massive chalkboard. We even started picking out materials. Then one day while perusing Hobby Lobby, I saw a chalkboards and thought---a trip tic. With 40% off, the husband and I determined we could buy three boards for around the price of making one. ...

How To Reuse Party Decor

I love decorating for shin-digs. The problem is, I often find myself wondering what to do with it all when the party is over. We just recently celebrated Hudson's first birthday. See what I did there? The robots that were garland are now specimen art. The tissue paper tassel garland is now hanging above the changing table. Which is the best idea ever because Hudson is obsessed with it. He is at that awful diaper changing stage where you need to pin him down and he is one squirmy worm--so we are grateful that it keeps him still. Until the novelty wears off, of course. I ...

Hudson’s First Birthday

This week/weekend has been so crazy packed that I couldn't even fit into one post. Well, at least not one post anyone would read. Wednesday, the 16th Hudson turned 1! This is baby #3 for me and I swear that with each kid, time just keeps going faster. I don't know how we got here so quickly. We started off his birthday with pancakes. This boy likes to eat. We went to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Last time we were there was in the fall and Hudson pretty much slept through the whole thing. That is, when we weren't stopping for nursing breaks. It was fun to see him really take it all in ...
